Patient Care Responsibilities:
* Execute tasks associated with standard patient care within a designated unit under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
* Support the patient's care plan by assisting with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, and comfort.
* Efficiently coordinate daily patient care activities on the nursing unit.
* Aid nursing staff in facilitating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
* Perform various duties within and in support of the assigned unit as delegated by nursing personnel.
* Respond to patient requests and notify appropriate staff when necessary.
* Assist patients in fulfilling their nutritional needs, including feeding and providing fluids and supplements.
Inventory Management:
* Order, stock, and replenish unit supplies and necessary equipment in a cost-effective manner.
* Participate in identifying unit financial responsibilities during budget preparation.
* Assist in maintaining the unit within its budget constraints.
Communication Duties:
* Facilitate unit communication, including telephones, intercom systems, call light systems, and computers, relaying information as necessary.
* Communicate patient information, concerns, or issues to the appropriate interdisciplinary team members.
* Direct communication among visitors, employees, and physicians within the assigned unit.
Customer Service Expectations:
* Greet visitors to the unit, answering questions, providing directions, and referring inquiries to nursing staff as appropriate.
* Answer telephone calls and direct inquiries to the relevant department or staff member.
* Maintain a polite and friendly demeanor in all interactions, whether by phone or in person.
* Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and healthcare teams.
Documentation Responsibilities:
* Record care provided using worksheets and/or the electronic medical record.
Regulatory Compliance:
* Adhere to professional standards, behavioral standards, and hospital policies as established by the organization.
* Comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.
* Maintain confidentiality by protecting personal healthcare information of all patients.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
* At least one year of recent nursing assistant experience is necessary.
* Availability of 72-80 hours in each biweekly schedule is required within the identified hours of the Resource Pool needs.
* Competence and willingness to work in two or more inpatient units are essential.
* Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
* Must obtain and maintain CPR certification as required by the unit and Continuing Education.
* Must meet and maintain educational requirements upon hire and annually as determined by the unit and Continuing Education Department.
* Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
* Ability to read and write is necessary.
* Must be capable of utilizing and caring for equipment on the nursing unit.
* Ability to recognize changes and abnormalities in patient conditions and report to appropriate staff is essential.
