Position Overview:
The Surgical Technologist II plays a vital role in delivering hands-on support to patients during surgical interventions, adhering to established protocols and hospital guidelines.
In alignment with Stanford Health Care's Mission and Values, the Surgical Technologist assists in the preparation and care of surgical patients across various demographics under the supervision of nursing staff.
Utilizing sterile techniques, comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, and an understanding of surgical procedures, the Surgical Technologist supports physicians in a range of invasive operations. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform essential surgical counts in collaboration with the Circulating Nurse in accordance with hospital policy.
- Uphold sterile techniques throughout procedures, monitor for potential breaches, and recommend process enhancements.
- Serve as a mentor to new personnel and assist in the training of new Surgical Technologists and students.
- Participate competently in complex and urgent surgical cases.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, as well as specimen and medication handling procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of the surgical environment and ensure the availability of necessary materials and instruments.
- Engage in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, and Auditing processes.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Capability to provide comfort and support to patients while maintaining their privacy.
- Proficiency in making informed decisions, fostering relationships, and proposing effective solutions.
Preferred Certifications:
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
- National Center for Competency Testing
- International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (specific to Byers Perioperative Services)
- Involves tasks with potential exposure to bodily fluids and tissues.
