Objective:
The role involves Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on Carbon Steel, HY-80/100, and CRES Plate, along with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GTAW) on various metals including Aluminum and Stainless Steel. Proficiency in Manual Torch Silver-brazing Process for Grade III and Grade V is also required.
Key Responsibilities
The individual will be accountable for welding metal components using diverse welding techniques and positions in a ship repair setting. This includes executing various welding methods such as Oxyacetylene, Metallic Arc, Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG), and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding. Tasks will encompass both fillet and butt welding. **Refer to Chart for details
•1st Class – Must possess qualifications for SMAW C/S Plate; FCAW C/S Plate; GMAW Aluminum Plate; (All positions – Overhead, Vertical & Horizontal); 6G C/S Pipe & 6G S/S Pipe; 6GR (restricted Plate) is advantageous.

Work Environment
Work is typically conducted outdoors under varying weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving machinery, and may involve occasional exposure to wet or humid environments and vibrations.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands outlined here are representative of those necessary for an employee to effectively perform the core functions of this position.
The employee is required to sit, climb, balance, and perform actions such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds is expected. Specific vision capabilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Work Schedule
This is a full-time role. Workdays and hours may vary, including weekends and nights. Regular and reliable on-site attendance is a critical function and a prerequisite for fulfilling other essential job functions.
Travel Requirements
Travel is primarily local during business hours, although occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may be necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an apprenticeship or trade school
- Master Class – 7+ years of experience in the trade, 1st Class – 5+ years of experience in the trade, 2nd Class – 3+ years of experience in the trade, 3rd Class – 1+ years of experience in the trade.
- Documented marine or industrial experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education that aligns with job-related requirements and business necessities.
• Must provide personal hand tools as specified by trade specialty.
Additional Eligibility Criteria
• Must be available to work all assigned shifts as production needs dictate.
• Must be capable of reading, interpreting, and utilizing blueprints.
• Must be proficient in using various tools and measuring devices during the welding process.
• This role is situated in an industrial environment involving extreme heights, confined spaces, physical labor, and various weather conditions within a shipyard.
• Must successfully pass a Physical Agility Test.
• Must be qualified to wear a respirator.
