Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Collaborate with parents, department team members, and general education staff to create and implement IEPs that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide Support and Accommodations: Design and deliver instruction, both individual and small group, that parallels the general education curriculum, ensuring students with diverse learning needs have equal access to education.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop educational plans that promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
  • Classroom Preparation and Management: Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • IEP Implementation and Progress Monitoring: Serve as the coordinator of IEP implementation with general education staff, monitoring student progress, participating in review and revision of students' IEPs, and maintaining accurate student records.
  • Mentorship and Support: Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities, ensuring they have the necessary tools and resources to excel in their roles.
  • Transition Support and Life Skills Preparation: Support students in preparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skills, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in their future endeavors.
  • Assessment and Tracking: Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and providing data-driven insights to inform instruction.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Discuss students' progress with their other teachers, maintaining positive relationships with students and their parents, and communicating effectively to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, valid state teaching certificate, and minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment.
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills: State Teacher Certification, Type: Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, and Standard Special Teaching; Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1); proficiency in the English language; computer proficiency; and ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals.
