Position Overview:

The primary objective of the Clinical Nutrition Specialist role is to conduct patient evaluations, nutritional assessments, care plan formulation, and nutrition education for patients and their families.

This position involves regular collaboration with medical professionals and other healthcare team members to guarantee that patients receive optimal nutritional care. The role aligns with the mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives of Methodist Health System.

Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in NICU and/or acute care settings is preferred.

A bachelor's degree that meets academic standards, successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program, and eligibility to take the American Dietetic Registration Exam; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Dietetics with a focus on Clinical Nutrition and eligibility to take the American Dietetics Registration Exam; or a Master's Degree that meets academic standards and successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program, with six months of experience in Clinical Nutrition and eligibility to take the American Dietetic Registration Exam.


Key Responsibilities:
Demonstrate the ability to make independent and responsible decisions.

Be a self-starter who shows initiative, maintains professionalism, and communicates effectively with physicians, patients, family members, and other facility staff. Exhibit knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients across the lifespan, from pediatric to geriatric.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  1. Accurately assess patients at nutritional risk following screening protocols.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to assess and reassess patient needs in a timely manner.
  3. Respond to requests and consultations promptly.
  4. Document nutrition interventions in a detailed and accurate manner.
  5. Recommend additional nutrition therapies as necessary.
  6. Develop individualized care plans.
  7. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to create interdisciplinary care plans and discharge strategies.
  8. Design educational plans based on assessed needs.
  9. Evaluate patient and family learning needs, identify barriers to learning, and determine effective modes of learning.
  10. Clearly explain dietary requirements, restrictions, and food/drug interactions.
  11. Respect the spiritual, cultural, and privacy needs of patients and families.
  12. Stay informed about disease states and advancements in nutrition to provide high-quality care.
  13. Participate in monitoring and reporting quality indicators for clinical nutrition and food services.
  14. Assist with food production, policy development, and special projects as needed.
  15. Complete other assigned duties.

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Registration with the American Dietetic Association with continuing education hours to maintain registration status; License with the Texas Board of Examiners of Dietitians and education hours to maintain licensure status.
