The Role


Reporting to the Director of High School Placement, the Secondary School Placement Advisor is tasked with providing program support to inform scholars and families about the high school placement process.

The ideal candidate will oversee programming that supports middle school scholars within our network. The Secondary School Placement Advisor will forge strong partnerships with Excellence Community Schools' leadership, teaching staff, parents, and guardians.

Qualifications

• Deeply committed to our mission and ensuring that each scholar is placed in the most suitable high school.


• A proactive approach with a sense of urgency to guarantee that each scholar is afforded optimal opportunities.

• Experience in high school admissions, education, or the nonprofit sector.

• Prior teaching experience preferred, particularly with students in grades 5 through 8.

• Familiarity with independent, selective public, specialized, charter, or Catholic school admissions, academic advising, and financial aid processes.

• Ability to collaborate effectively and be a proactive team player.

• Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and opportunities for underrepresented youth.

• Exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, a high level of integrity, and adherence to deadlines.

• Familiarity with relevant platforms and tools is preferred.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to engage and work with various stakeholders both within and outside the organization.

• Enthusiasm for supporting new initiatives and seeing them through to completion.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

• Sensitivity to diverse family cultures and dynamics.

• A Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.

• Fluency in additional languages is a plus.

• Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will not be considered.

Responsibilities


• Assist in all facets of the high school admissions process, including scholar essays and portfolios, test preparation, interviews, financial aid guidance, and school selection.


• Collaborate with the Director of High School Placement to ensure a cohesive and integrated high school placement process for all scholars.


• Teach and support the middle school (grades 5-8) high school preparation curriculum, equipping scholars for competitive independent day and boarding schools, Catholic, specialized, and selective public schools.


• Build relationships with middle school parents through group and individual meetings regarding the high school placement process, covering high school options, test preparation, application procedures, financial aid, etc.

• Prepare scholars for various high school admission assessments, essays, and portfolios.

• Support, coordinate, and supervise practice exams and mock interviews for scholars.

• Document meeting notes for each scholar and parent interaction.

• Create and maintain scholar profiles.

• Nominate scholars for academic enrichment, performing and visual arts, and competitive athletic programs.

• Prepare scholars and families for open houses, visitation days, and registration for entrance exams.

• Maintain regular communication with parents regarding the high school application process through various channels.

• Assist with network High School Placement office hours for application support as needed.

• Process admissions documents and ensure timely submission of applications.

• Support the execution of High School Placement departmental summer programming.

• Attend educational fairs with scholars and families.

• Provide assistance to the Director of High School Placement as required.

• Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by the Director of High School Placement.

Working Conditions


This is a year-round position, requiring work during the summer, occasional evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of our scholars and their families.

The role may involve travel within our network as necessary for high school placement support and coverage.


This position will be based on-site at one of our middle schools and will report to the Director of High School Placement and the Principal.
