Overview:

As a Special Education Teacher at Acero Charter Schools, Inc., you will play a vital role in ensuring the academic growth and success of students with diverse learning needs. You will be responsible for leading the curriculum, instruction, and assessment for students, using proven educational models for social-emotional learning, personalized learning, and data-driven differentiated instruction in a culturally-sensitive manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans that cater to the unique needs of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement high-quality IEPs that effectively catalog student needs with clear objectives and outcomes.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior in a respectful manner that is consistent with the school-wide rules and Acero Charter Schools Student Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate effectively with administration, colleagues, students, parents, and the larger academic community to improve academic outcomes for all students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent.
  • Valid Illinois LBS1 endorsement or equivalent.
  • Strong technology skills and familiarity with electronic IEP systems.
  • ESL/Bilingual endorsement preferred.

Working Conditions:

The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, collect, compile, and prepare work documents, set up and maintain work files, and an ability to communicate and exchange information. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20 lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.
