We are currently looking for a Quality Control Inspector responsible for conducting thorough final inspections of railcars, ensuring that all work adheres to industry standards and customer specifications. The QC Inspector will also collaborate with the production team on various quality initiatives as necessary. Key Responsibilities: This section outlines the primary functions of the role, though it is not an exhaustive list, and employees may be called upon to perform additional tasks as required. Conduct visual, dimensional, and mechanical inspections of railcars and components at all stages of maintenance and qualification processes to evaluate the quality of work performed. Execute shop floor audits to confirm that production operations comply with relevant U.S. and Canadian regulations, AAR interchange/MSRP's, and Marmon Rail standards. Document all identified nonconforming conditions through reports, forms, checklists, and the nonconformance reporting system. Maintain accurate inspection records for all railcars serviced, ensuring all documentation is complete prior to approval. Review shop floor documentation and final car files for completeness and compliance. Coordinate with production to plan daily shipments, ensuring timely inspections and verifications. Ensure railcars are properly secured, closed, marked, and identified before release for interchange. Report any adverse or non-compliant findings to the relevant supervisor and QA Manager, following up to ensure corrective actions are implemented before the car proceeds to subsequent processes. Engage in and actively support quality projects and Responsible Care initiatives to help the Company achieve its objectives. Qualifications and Skills: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 3-5 years of relevant experience in railcar repair or manufacturing is preferred. In-depth knowledge of inspection protocols, tank car construction, and applicable FRA and AAR regulations. Familiarity with NDT processes is advantageous. Additional training in inspection methods will be necessary. Proficiency in computer usage, including AS400, Outlook, and various Microsoft Office applications. Strong reading and comprehension skills for interpreting Fleet Repair Standards, regulations, drawings, and catalogs. General mechanical aptitude and ability to utilize railroad gauges and testing equipment for inspections. Vision correctable to 20/20 is required for inspection tasks. Working Conditions: Work may be scheduled on an off shift. Care must be taken to avoid injury while handling materials. Ability to climb ladders to heights of approximately 14 feet and perform inspections in various positions. Comfortable entering tank cars through a manway opening of approximately 20 inches in diameter. Willingness to work in heights, confined spaces, and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to wear necessary safety equipment, including safety shoes, hard hats, respirators, harnesses, and safety glasses.
