Position Overview:
The Medical Imaging Specialist is responsible for capturing diagnostic images of specific areas of the human body and providing essential support within the imaging department. This role focuses on performing standard x-rays and fluoroscopy procedures.
Core Responsibilities:
- Communicates procedures to patients to ensure clarity and understanding, providing educational resources as needed.
- Facilitates patient transport to clinical areas, confirming patient identity in accordance with established protocols. Assists in preparing patients for imaging exams by positioning them appropriately.
- Supports technologists in managing patient records, ensuring accurate filing and retrieval of reports and images.
- Adheres to radiation safety protocols to minimize unnecessary exposure to patients.
- Prepares and administers contrast agents and medications within the scope of practice and regulatory guidelines.
- Monitors patients during procedures, reporting any unusual findings and suggesting protocol improvements as necessary.
- Ensures high-quality submission of images and documentation to the PACS system, maintaining accuracy in patient data.
- Maintains imaging equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel and ensuring proper functioning.
- Contributes to a clean and organized work environment, including all areas of the imaging department.
- May perform limited CT procedures in emergency situations when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
- Maintains a vigilant and safe working environment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
- Completion of an Associate's degree or a radiology certification program.
Experience:
- No prior experience is required.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Regular use of vision for both near and far distances.
- Consistent auditory communication for sharing information.
- Frequent lifting and moving of patients and equipment.
- Occasional lifting of heavier objects.
- Regular use of hands for data entry and equipment handling.
