Position Overview

The City of San Jose is seeking candidates for the role of Accounting Technician. This position operates under general supervision and involves complex tasks related to the management of financial records, systems, and transactions.

Key Responsibilities

The Accounting Technician will be responsible for:

- Delivering detailed technical accounting records to various departments, including summaries, inventories, and analyses.

- Processing financial documents in accordance with internal regulations and ensuring compliance with relevant laws; resolving discrepancies and ensuring accurate documentation.

- Potentially supervising accounting clerical staff, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance.

- Advising departments on financial matters and assisting in budget management.

- Collaborating with other city departments, auditors, and external entities to exchange information regarding financial responsibilities.

- Utilizing standard office equipment and software for various accounting tasks.

- Preparing clear and organized written and verbal communications.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must have:

- A high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of four years of relevant accounting clerical experience, including two years of experience in ledger management and processing financial transactions.

- A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
