Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join our team at the University of California, Merced. The successful candidate will lead research projects on the sustainability and circularity of natural textiles through composting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the composting of cotton-based textiles and its application in cotton production agroecosystems
  • Develop and implement innovative experimental composting methods, including household scale compost bins, laboratory bioreactors, and large-scale on-farm composting facilities
  • Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to advance knowledge on textile recycling, decomposition mechanisms, and contaminant fates
  • Mentor undergraduate students on relevant projects and contribute to the development of novel research ideas
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in agroecology, environmental chemistry, environmental engineering, soil science, biogeochemistry, agronomy, environmental sciences, geosciences, or related fields
  • Experience in field and laboratory research methods
  • Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Highly motivated to work in a collaborative setting on sustainability research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with or interest in compost research
  • Excellent data analysis and visualization skills
