Cesar Chavez Environmental Corps (CCEC) operates under the auspices of the Farmworkers Institute of Education and Leadership Development (FIELD), a nonprofit organization established to enhance the welfare of agricultural and rural communities. The Corpsmember will engage in diverse projects across multiple sites, focusing on skill development through hands-on experience in Environmental Conservation, Energy, Education, Entrepreneurship, and Civic Action. This position is designed as a job training program lasting one year, with the potential for an extension.

Key Responsibilities

The Corpsmember's duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Environmental restoration initiatives
  • Litter collection and management
  • Trail construction, upkeep, and rehabilitation
  • Landscaping and tree planting efforts
  • Removal of invasive plant species
  • Fence construction and maintenance
  • Irrigation for water conservation
  • Camping at outdoor work sites
  • Fire fuel management and reduction
  • Participation in fire training programs
  • Maintaining physical fitness
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged between 18 and 26 at the time of hiring
  • Comfortable working in proximity to highways and fast-moving vehicles
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate positively with team members
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability
  • Willingness to participate in outdoor camping experiences for extended periods
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds
Education and Experience

Applicants must be actively enrolled in an educational program, such as:

  • High school diploma
  • College or university coursework
  • Career technical education (CTE)

No prior work experience is necessary.

Certificates and Licenses

Possession of a California driver’s license is preferred.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be required for project assignments, including outdoor camping for up to two weeks.

Language Skills

Basic reading and writing skills are essential, along with the ability to respond to common inquiries from various stakeholders.

Physical Demands

This role requires physical engagement, including:

  • Regular lifting and moving of weights
  • Ability to hike and navigate uneven terrain
  • Maintaining mental alertness during extended periods of activity
