Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Housekeeping Worker to join our Student Affairs team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our residential halls and other assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain established standards of cleanliness and sanitation in residential halls, student lounges, offices, lobbies, stairs, rest rooms, showers, windows, and other interior spaces.
  • Perform floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removal of trash, snow and ice removal from entranceways and sidewalks, raking leaves and gathering trash from areas near buildings, and replenishing supplies.
  • Operate powered and manual cleaning equipment, including electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.
  • Report needed equipment and building repair and any unsafe or unusual housekeeping situations.
  • Care for and handle housekeeping supplies, equipment, and assigned keys.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors.
  • Knowledge of commercial/industrial cleaning methods.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Safely and efficiently operate electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cleaning of institutional, domestic, or commercial areas.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • May be exposed to chemicals, dust, and other hazardous materials.
