The Director of Simulation and Clinical Learning Labs plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and continuity of simulation and clinical learning laboratory experiences for students across various programs at Galen College of Nursing. Key Responsibilities
  • Simulation Laboratory Oversight: Provide strategic direction and support for instructional activities in the simulation laboratory, ensuring that students and faculty meet course student learning outcomes (CSLOs) through simulation experiences.
  • Simulation Experience Development: Oversee the creation, implementation, and revision of simulation experiences aligned with registered and practical/vocational nursing curricula.
  • Faculty Performance Appraisal: Conduct performance evaluations or provide feedback to simulation and clinical learning laboratory faculty on their effectiveness in supporting student learning and curriculum outcome requirements.
  • Integration of Knowledge and Skills: Ensure that simulation and clinical learning lab experiences promote the integration of necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes, particularly in relation to safe and effective care.
  • Simulation Education and Training: Oversee the orientation, training, and ongoing professional development of simulation and clinical learning laboratory faculty in the use of simulation in nursing education, adhering to International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice.
  • Evaluation and Data Analysis: Develop and conduct evaluations related to the effectiveness of simulated learning, maintaining data on student achievement of CSLOs through simulation and clinical learning lab experiences, and providing quarterly analysis and recommendations to improve quality and continuity.
  • Committee Participation: Participate and contribute to college-wide Simulation and Clinical Learning Lab Committees.
  • Liaison and Collaboration: Serve as a liaison with area universities, schools, healthcare organizations, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations regarding policy changes affecting the use of simulation and the simulation/clinical learning laboratory.
  • Scholarly Research: Conduct research related to simulated learning that aligns with organizational needs to enhance the value of campus-based simulations and contribute to the science of the profession.
  • Simulation Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain and update the simulation laboratory, including identifying software needs, monitoring simulation equipment, troubleshooting, and resolving staffing problems.
  • Inventory Management: Ensure Clinical Learning Lab & Simulation Lab inventories are conducted at least annually.
  • Long-Range Planning: Provide input to the Dean and Program Directors regarding long-range planning for the use of simulation in registered and practical/vocational nursing programs.
  • Supervision and Collaboration: Supervise Clinical Learning Laboratory Coordinator, Simulation Coordinator, and Simulation Technicians, as available, and collaborate with the Clinical Learning Laboratory Coordinator and Simulation Lab Coordinator for scheduling use of simulation lab and clinical learning lab.
  • Campus Tours and Mock Simulations: Assist with campus tours and mock simulations that showcase the value of simulated education in nursing.
  • Relationship Building: Maintain relationships with area colleges, universities, professional organizations, hospitals, and other healthcare agencies.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with developments in the field of simulation technology and learning theories.
  • Equipment Recommendations: Make recommendations to the Dean for additional purchases of simulation equipment.
Requirements
  • Unencumbered Licensure: Applicable state as a Registered Nurse.
  • Education: Minimum of a Master of Science Degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution required. Attainment of Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential within six (6) months of assuming the position.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) current experience as a Registered Nurse. Minimum of two (2) years experience in simulation education.
  • Special Qualifications: Organizational and planning skills; knowledge of the function and operation of the various simulation models available in the simulation/clinical learning laboratory. Effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use personal computers, word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people. Attention to detail and follow through.
  • Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment: Position requires critical thinking, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making. Physical demands in classroom and office are minimal and considered sedentary work with occasional lifting and/or carrying such articles as supplies, files, and books (25 pounds minimum). Operation of standard office equipment such as phone, computer, classroom projector, and printer/scanner, occurs on a frequent basis.
  • Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
