Role Overview:

  • The Peer Recovery Support Specialist will deliver non-hospital based services aimed at providing immediate support and facilitating access to essential resources to avert emergency department visits and psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Services will be extended to individuals who arrive at the program or are referred from local emergency departments.
  • Initial engagement will be voluntary for adults (18 years and older) experiencing mental health crises or co-occurring disorders.

Team Role Summary:

  • The Peer Recovery Support Specialist is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, offering education, rehabilitation, and support to individuals in need.
  • This position is designed to instill hope in clients by providing a relatable support figure who has experienced mental health or addiction challenges and is willing to share their journey of recovery.

Working Environment:

  • Work will take place in a supportive environment designed for recovery.
  • Services are available 24/7, requiring flexibility in scheduling.
  • The Peer Recovery Support Specialist must ensure consistent coverage regardless of external conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Daily Responsibilities:

  • Engage in crisis intervention planning.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling and recovery coaching as needed.
  • Respond to all communications promptly.
  • Complete assigned daily tasks by the end of each shift.
  • Follow a structured daily schedule to promote client progress.

2. Documentation Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with organizational standards.

3. Team Collaboration:

  • Exhibit punctuality and maintain a strong attendance record.
  • Stay alert and engaged during all shifts.
  • Foster effective communication with team members to ensure safe and supportive services.
  • Promote a positive work environment through professional interactions.
  • Address conflicts constructively and professionally.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and necessary endorsements.

Compensation:

  • Starting salary is competitive and based on experience and education.

Schedule:

  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, including potential overnight shifts and holiday work.
  • Regular attendance is essential for this role.

Travel Requirements:

  • A valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements is necessary.
  • A reliable vehicle is required for transporting clients as needed.

Equipment/Technology:

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A High School Diploma is required, along with personal experience in behavioral health services or recovery.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, or three years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge in cultural diversity, human development, and mental health treatment is essential.

Experience:

  • Experience working with individuals facing severe mental health challenges is preferred.
  • Prior experience in crisis settings is advantageous.
  • Ability to share personal recovery experiences to support clients is crucial.
