Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Deputy Clerk to support the operations of our Court. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and possess a strong understanding of court procedures and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assume duties of the Clerk of the Court as required
  • Assist in training and directing daily work of subordinate staff
  • Interview and collect information from citizens
  • Receive, record, and file documents
  • Assure scheduling of cases and hearings
  • Prepare and type various documents and records
  • Prepare and distribute the court calendar
  • Collect, receipt, and account for money
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public
  • Operate various office machines with emphasis on personal computers
Additional Responsibilities:

When assigned to the Magistrate Court, the Deputy Clerk will be responsible for assessing information obtained from citizens to determine if a case can proceed to the judge for a warrant. They will also prepare bench warrants, consent judgments, bankruptcy orders, warrants, dispossessories, and other documents.

When assigned to the Juvenile Court, the Deputy Clerk will be responsible for assuring all case files are ready for the judge. They will also serve as Traffic Court clerk, preparing orders and entering data during Court, and handling all follow-up processes such as dispositions, fines, and records.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three years clerical support experience
  • Ability to type 35 wpm
  • Knowledge of business and legal English, spelling, arithmetic, and modern office practices and principles
  • Knowledge of court recording and filing regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, documents, and the laws, rules, and regulations governing the filing and recording of legal instruments
Working Conditions:

The Deputy Clerk will work in a fast-paced office environment, interacting with the public, County officials, attorneys, and other employees. They will be required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, operate a computer and other office machinery, and handle stress and emotion.
