Position Overview:
The City of Pearland, TX is looking for a dedicated full-time Automotive Technician to join our team. This role involves performing lubrication and filter replacements, diagnostics, repairs, and providing general assessments to the Lead Mechanic as necessary.
Objective:
The primary goal of this position is to extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment while minimizing downtime.
Compensation:
The Automotive Technician will receive a competitive hourly wage of $22.27, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:
The essential functions of this role include:
- Regular and timely attendance at work.
- Availability to work around the clock when on call.
- Maintaining proper housekeeping and a positive attitude.
- Exhibiting excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Ensuring safety by using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Planning work procedures in consultation with the Lead Mechanic.
- Conducting initial and in-process inspections, performing mechanical diagnostics, and troubleshooting to identify defects and determine causes of malfunctions.
- Carrying out mechanical maintenance on defective parts and performing major body work.
- Disassembling units and inspecting parts for wear.
- Overhauling or replacing fueling systems, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
- Replacing and adjusting headlights, and installing and repairing accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
- Changing oil, greasing fittings, and changing air, fuel, and oil filters.
- Rotating tires as needed.
- Inspecting vehicles/equipment and reporting any potential issues.
- Raising vehicles with hydraulic jacks or hoists to access mechanical units.
- Repairing A/C, engines, brakes, driveline, and equipment as necessary.
- Contributing to team efforts by performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess the following:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of related experience and/or training preferred.
- A valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
- Strong mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- The ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions.
- Knowledge of database software.
- Competence in performing repairs and maintenance on various types of vehicles and equipment.
- Effective listening skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with the public and coworkers.
- The ability to present a positive image of the City at all times.
- Knowledge of methods, practices, materials, and tools used in automotive and equipment repair.
- Proficiency in operating various tools and equipment.
