Job Title: Accelerator Technical Specialist

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking an experienced Accelerator Technical Specialist to join our team at the Argonne Tandem Linear Accelerator System (ATLAS). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of beamline mechanical systems, troubleshooting of accelerator diagnostic devices, and supporting water and electric utilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and maintenance of beamline mechanical systems
  • Troubleshooting of accelerator diagnostic devices, including Faraday cups and wire scanners
  • Support for water and electric utilities
  • Maintaining and documenting equipment in support of the ATLAS accelerator
Requirements:
  • Proficiency with the safe use and best practices of hand-held power tools and hand tools
  • Proficiency with the fabrication of parts using basic shop tools and drawings
  • Proficiency in general mechanical assembly
  • Experience logging and documenting system maintenance, performance, and modifications
  • Ability to work independently following verbal or written instructions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to use multi-meters and other basic electrical measuring tools
  • Familiarity with relay logic, interlock systems, or basic computer code
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Understanding of basic vacuum principles and best practices
Education and Experience:

Minimum qualifications include an AA degree or high school diploma and 1-3 years of experience. Preferred qualifications include experience at an accelerator facility and proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting and Dimensioning software.
