Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Dock Worker/Forklift Operator to join our team at Old Dominion Freight Line. As a key member of our service center, you will be responsible for loading and unloading freight, operating a forklift, and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload freight from trailers using a forklift, pallet jack, or manually, adhering to state and federal DOT guidelines.
  • Transport freight and personnel throughout the service center, navigating non-forgiving surfaces.
  • Utilize the Dock Yard Management System to track freight shipment locations and monitor inventory.
  • Read and interpret shipping labels, and complete various forms related to freight movement.
  • Hand load, rewrap, or stack freight as needed, and secure it inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies.
  • Frequent contact with service center personnel, requiring strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Previous forklift experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Able to complete company and governmental forms, and comprehend written company policies and regulations.
  • Ability to operate a hand-held mini-computer when needed.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position with a regular schedule, but may require occasional overtime or flexible hours to meet business needs. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with frequent interactions with service center personnel.
