Job Summary

This part-time tutor position is available at Lone Star College. The successful candidate will provide academic support to students in biology, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality tutoring services to students in biology, adapting to individual learning styles and needs.
  • Develop and maintain a weekly schedule of available hours for student appointments.
  • Assist students in developing effective study skills for post-secondary education.
  • Monitor and review student progress, modifying tutoring strategies as needed.
  • Encourage students to take ownership of their learning, fostering a growth mindset.
  • Collaborate with LSC staff and faculty to obtain course materials and develop tutoring resources.
  • Provide feedback to staff and faculty on student progress.
  • Stay current with relevant research and developments in biology, enhancing tutoring expertise.
  • Perform additional duties as needed, such as covering the courtesy counter or assisting with events.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated expertise in biology, with a strong understanding of subject matter.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and staff.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality service to students, with a focus on student success.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a team player.

Working Conditions:

  • The work is sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, or lifting light items.
  • Equipment used includes a PC workstation, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out job duties.
