Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child and Youth Caseworker to join our team at La Plata County. As a key member of our Human Services department, you will be responsible for providing case management services to children and families involved with the child protection system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide case management services to children and families, including intake and needs assessments, case planning, and service coordination.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans to address the needs of children and families.
  • Collaborate with community partners to access financial assistance, transportation, housing, and basic needs for families.
  • Perform initial assessments and evaluations of child abuse or neglect issues, and coordinate necessary arrangements for foster care and other types of placements.
  • Provide home or office-based counseling to clients and/or their family members and caregivers on topics such as safety, decision making, de-escalation of agitated persons, and improving communication among family members.
  • Assist with the delivery of services to prepare young adults in the foster care system to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related human behavioral science.
  • Experience working with children and families in a social services setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and cases.
  • Knowledge of child welfare laws and policies, including Native American child welfare laws.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a variety of environments, including the office, client homes, community agencies, and schools. The position may involve potential exposure to hazardous and/or violent environments and/or clients.
