Position Overview
The Kansas Geological Survey (KGS) is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time postdoctoral research role within the Geophysics/Exploration Services division. The successful applicant will collaborate with a research team focused on developing and applying machine learning (ML) techniques and optimization algorithms in the domains of signal processing, seismic imaging, and inversion.

Key Responsibilities
1. **Model Development**: Design and implement ML-based models and neural networks tailored for signal processing and seismic imaging applications.
2. **Research Dissemination**: Share research findings through presentations at conferences and contributions to academic publications.
3. **Professional Engagement**: Participate in collaborative activities with other researchers, contribute to scientific peer reviews, and engage in public outreach and education initiatives.

Employment Details
This position is funded for a one-year term, with a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $60,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include a professional development budget, university staff privileges, paid vacation and sick leave, holidays, a retirement plan, and various insurance options.

Qualifications
  1. A Ph.D. in imaging science, computer science, mathematics, physics, earth science, or a related field obtained within the last five years.
  2. Demonstrated experience in developing machine/deep learning algorithms.
  3. Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or MATLAB.
  4. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  5. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Familiarity with physics-informed neural networks.
  2. Experience in diffraction imaging and seismic inversion.
  3. Background in data processing techniques.
