Position Summary:

The Dockworker/Forklift Operator plays a crucial role in the logistics process by efficiently loading and unloading freight from various transportation methods using a forklift. This position involves organizing, stacking, and managing pallets or containers within the warehouse or dock area. Adherence to safety protocols, regular inspection and maintenance of the forklift, and timely reporting of any issues to the supervisor are essential responsibilities.

Key Duties:

  • Operate a forklift to facilitate the loading and unloading of cargo from diverse transportation modes.
  • Organize, stack, and manage pallets or containers in the warehouse or dock area.
  • Verify and document the quantity and condition of incoming and outgoing cargo.
  • Label, tag, or mark cargo as necessary.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the forklift, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and utilize protective equipment as required.
  • Support fellow dockworkers with manual labor tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possess a valid forklift certification or have prior experience operating a forklift.
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Capable of accurately documenting relevant freight information on shipping documents.
  • Basic proficiency in math and reading.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations regarding forklift operation and cargo handling.
