About the Role

The SME Contractor will play a crucial role in maintaining and expanding our OpenTofu IaC code library, focusing on their area of expertise. This is a flexible, part-time role, with tickets assigned and a 1-3 day SLA, allowing for a comfortable work-life balance.

  • You will be working with AWS, focusing on a specific subset of services, such as networking, databases, or security.
  • Familiarity with testing OpenTofu code using tools like terratest or the built-in tofu test capability is essential.
  • You will be working independently, with a strong emphasis on organization and communication skills.
  • As a tech lead, you will be responsible for running projects, tracking work in tools like Jira or Linear, and collaborating with the team to ensure broader objectives are met.

This is a mid-level contractor position, paid based on an hourly rate, with an average of ~10-15 hours of work per week, up to 25 hours, depending on availability and skill level.

For candidates in North America, this role offers a path to full-time employment with Gruntwork when future positions open up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and expanding the Infrastructure as Code library, with a focus on AWS.
  • Providing world-class customer support within your area of expertise, including resolving customer tickets and knowledge base posts, keeping GitHub issues and external PRs up to date, and ensuring modules are kept up to date with 3rd party tool releases.
  • Contributing to open-source projects, including Terragrunt, Terratest, cloud-nuke, bash-commons, boilerplate, and more.
Qualifications
  • Deep expertise in writing Terraform/OpenTofu modules, with familiarity with Terragrunt being a plus.
  • Experience testing infrastructure as code.
  • A strong background in software engineering, with 5+ years of experience.
  • Deep expertise within a domain of AWS, such as ECS/EKS.
  • Extensive experience writing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Strong communication skills in English, with the ability to engage with external customers.
  • Interest in working a flexible number of hours, averaging ~15 hours/week.
  • Ability to respond to support and maintenance requests within a 1-2 business day SLA.
  • A passion for automating solutions to mitigate future problems.
