Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient-centered respiratory care. As a key member of the patient care team, this individual performs diagnostic tests, administers therapies, and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
Responsibilities- Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
- Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
- Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Assist with placement of artificial airways.
- Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
- Monitor patient for therapeutic response.
- Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
- Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
- Respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support
- RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP)
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist
- Associate Degree
