Position Overview
The Senior Wireless Operations Engineer will take the lead in the effective planning, execution, and ongoing maintenance of our Wi-Fi infrastructure and associated systems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Subject Matter Expert, you will spearhead the design, construction, and testing phases for new products, services, hardware, software, and functionalities related to our core wireless components, which include routers, switches, wireless LAN controllers, and access points.

You will facilitate the rollout and deployment of new services, systems, applications, and architectures, which encompasses installation, configuration, integration, evaluation, testing, documentation, and training.

Manage advanced-level projects within Operations to ensure timely delivery and validate critical milestones, ensuring that service delivery remains on track.

Develop a clear understanding of technical challenges and devise solutions to address them effectively.

Establish testing strategies for solutions and document the outcomes.

Systematically scope, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex issues in high-scale service provider Wi-Fi environments while minimizing customer disruptions and outages.

Gather configurations, logs, and packet captures as needed for escalation to engineering colleagues or vendors.

Collaborate with Operations team members to create detailed designs, configurations, and procedures that reflect operational perspectives, focusing on reliability, scalability, simplicity, and standardization.

Work alongside Engineering peers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the risks associated with proposed changes to hardware or software.

Reproduce production issues in staging lab environments using traffic generators as necessary.

Continuously assess and enhance lab methodologies and procedures.

Define engineering requirements for events, authoring methods and procedures to be executed based on defined SNMP or syslog alarm conditions, and validate test cases in lower environments.

Quickly grasp preliminary product/platform concepts or high-level designs and subsequently draft technical requirements as needed.

Translate high-level engineering documentation into actionable configurations and test plans.

Create network change tickets in accordance with existing processes and validate conflicts to prevent unnecessary outages.

Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation and engage in planned maintenance activities during designated maintenance windows as required.

Assist in coaching and mentoring junior technicians and Cox tiered support teams.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with a minimum of 4 years of experience as a technical engineer in the Wireless Communications sector. Alternatively, candidates may possess a master's degree with 2 years of experience, a Ph.D. with up to 1 year of experience, or 16 years of experience in a related field.
Intermediate knowledge of Wi-Fi and associated IEEE standards, protocols, and service-provider architectures.
Intermediate understanding of Wireless (3GPP/3GPP2) standards, protocols, and service-provider architectures.
Intermediate proficiency in packet-based protocols (IP, DHCP, DNS, TCP, UDP, etc.).
Intermediate familiarity with MPLS and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP4, etc.).
Intermediate knowledge of security protocols and authentication methods (WPA2, WISPr, EAP, 802.1x, AAA, RADIUS).
Fundamental understanding of DOCSIS access and provisioning technologies.
Unix Shell and scripting skills on Linux (or U*ix systems), preferably CentOS, RHEL, or FreeBSD.
Experience with network analysis tools such as Wireshark.

Preferred

Certifications:
NRS II, CCNA, JNCIA
Experience in the telecommunications industry is preferred, ideally with over 5 years in a tiered technical service assurance and/or service implementation environment.
Experience leading projects aimed at enhancing network capabilities for current and future services.
Specific experience in designing and operating large-scale service provider wireless networks.

Compensation

The compensation package includes a competitive base salary, which may vary based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. Additional compensation may be available through incentive programs.
