Position Overview:
This role is designed for a dedicated professional to work in a 4-day rotating schedule with 10-hour shifts, including every third weekend. The position involves providing care across various departments within the hospital and clinic, including NICU services and inpatient coverage during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

About Marshfield Children's Hospital:
As the only dedicated pediatric hospital in Central Wisconsin, we pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive range of pediatric services. Our facility features a 24-bed unit tailored for young patients, complete with themed areas that support family involvement.

Our team includes a diverse array of primary care providers and over 40 pediatric specialties, ensuring that we can meet the needs of every child. We are also proud to offer the region's only pediatric oncology inpatient unit, specializing in rare childhood conditions.

Role Responsibilities:
The Child Life Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting children and adolescents in managing their healthcare experiences. Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing emotional support and distraction techniques during medical procedures.
  • Acting as an advocate for patients and their families, addressing questions and clarifying processes at a level suitable for their developmental stage.
  • Utilizing therapeutic play to alleviate stress and teach coping strategies for dealing with illnesses and injuries.
  • Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients and their families.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in child life, therapeutic recreation with a focus on child life, child development, psychology, or a related field.
  • Completion of a 600-hour child life internship or equivalent experience as a Child Life Specialist, with eligibility to take the Child Life Certification exam.
  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) within one year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within one month of hire.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in child life, therapeutic recreation with a focus on child life, child development, psychology, or a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills, initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Familiarity with technology and resources tailored for children.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
