Under the guidance of a licensed dietitian, this role involves the daily, hands-on management of the storage, preparation, and distribution of breast milk and pediatric formulas.
Assist in the operational activities of the Infant Nutrition Lab to guarantee the highest safety standards for all patients receiving products prepared in the lab.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) to deliver timely, cost-effective, and suitable nutritional support for patients while minimizing waste.
Receive and organize physician/RDN directives, interpreting these orders using medical terminology and recognizing both generic and brand names of all compounded ingredients.
Perform necessary calculations for the preparation of ordered feeding products, including measuring breast milk, formula, and calculating additives.
Follow established protocols for the safe and precise preparation of breast milk, formulas, and nutritional additives, adhering to hygiene standards and utilizing personal protective equipment.
Ensure proper labeling to accurately identify products, apply expiration dates, and track prepared items.
Handle and prepare breast milk and/or formula using aseptic techniques.
Verify that all products are utilized within their designated expiration dates and in accordance with manufacturer safety guidelines.
Coordinate the timely distribution of prepared breast milk and/or formula to designated storage areas for individual patient use, considering scheduled delivery times and expiration dates.
Engage with colleagues to ensure optimal storage and preparation of breast milk and/or formula.
Document all necessary information in electronic health records and maintain required paperwork for the preparation, delivery, and inventory of breast milk, formulas, and feeding supplies.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the work area and equipment in accordance with established protocols.
Conduct quality assurance tasks, including maintaining logs and checking equipment functionality, reporting any issues to the appropriate supervisor.
Manage inventory and ensure proper rotation of supplies.
Exhibit fiscal responsibility by effectively managing time, reducing waste, and promoting cost efficiency while ensuring patient safety and quality care.
Assist in training new staff on breast milk and formula preparation and handling techniques as required.
This position is typically performed in a clinical setting. You will be accountable for fulfilling all job-specific responsibilities and adhering to all organizational policies and procedures. Position Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED is mandatory; a Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
