Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist with summer work on the Virginia Tech Small Grains Breeding Program's agricultural research trials. This is an excellent opportunity for students or summer employment seekers to gain hands-on experience with plant breeding, field work, and to expand their agricultural skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with research trials, including data collection, sample preparation, and equipment maintenance.
  • Travel to work between trials in various locations, with transportation provided via state vehicles.
  • Perform physical labor, including lifting and carrying equipment, and working in outdoor environments.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure successful completion of research projects.

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50lbs and work in outdoor environments for extended periods.
  • Flexibility with schedule as required for a short period in the summer.
  • Pass a background check and, if needed, driving background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with field work and agricultural equipment.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $15/hr, with possible overtime, plus free hotel and meal per diem provided by program for overnight trips.
