Position Overview
Our laboratory in Dayton, NJ is offering an internship opportunity for individuals interested in a Laboratory Assistant position. This role requires a commitment of 20 hours per week during the fall semester and is a paid internship.
Key Responsibilities
The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for a variety of support tasks to assist Lab Technicians and Lab Analysts, ensuring the highest quality standards by adhering to SGS' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Responsibilities include:
- Managing supply inventory by signing out supplies from the supply room.
- Maintaining an adequate stock of accessories, consumables, and chemicals in each laboratory to optimize workflow.
- Disposing of samples following the designated retention period.
- Documenting activities in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and managing expired or depleted chemicals.
- Preparing non-treated in-house media.
- Cleaning and decontaminating laboratory glassware and equipment in accordance with SOPs.
- Performing administrative tasks as required.
- Adhering to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Executing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess:
- A high school diploma (required).
- 1-2 years of general work experience (preferred).
- Proficient English language skills (required).
- Basic reasoning and mathematical abilities (required).
- Basic computer proficiency (required).
- The capability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull weights of up to 25 lbs on a frequent basis (required).
