Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our team at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. As a Dental Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our dental team in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist dentists and hygienists with patient care, including preparing patients for exams and procedures, taking X-rays, and sterilizing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and billing information.
  • Prepare and dispense dental materials, such as impression trays, gloves, and suction tips.
  • Assist with dental procedures, including drilling, filling, and extracting teeth.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Collaborate with the dental team to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow, including scheduling appointments and managing waitlists.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date on the latest dental techniques and technologies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in dental assisting or a related field preferred.
  • Current certification as a dental assistant (CDA) or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a dental assistant or in a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, dentists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods, with frequent bending and reaching.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in dental software, including electronic health records and billing systems.
Working Conditions
  • Work in a fast-paced clinical environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
