Job Summary:

As a Mammography Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality mammography services to patients in accordance with physician orders. Your expertise will be essential in preparing mammography rooms and diagnostic equipment, performing high-quality testing, and developing films. You will exercise professional judgment and uphold medical ethics in the performance of diagnostic services, applying knowledge of growth and development to identify requirements relative to age-specific patients. Maintaining strict patient and staff confidentiality is also a key aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:Diagnostic Testing:
  • Perform mammography images through clinical protocols and position patients to best demonstrate anatomic areas of interest, respecting comfort and ability.
  • Demonstrate knowledge to perform mammography through the use of radiological equipment.
  • Develop films in accordance with proper techniques.
  • Evaluate mammography images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide radiology services to all age groups served.
  • Provide patient education on procedures according to age-specific needs.
  • Facilitate patients' cooperation and alleviate anxiety by addressing concerns.
  • Verify appropriate procedures to be performed by checking physicians' orders, outpatient prescriptions, and prior reports.
  • Contact physicians with discrepancies.
  • Demonstrate complete understanding of contrast agents for certain studies and prepare desired contrast media.
Computer System:
  • Ensure patient information is accurately inputted into the departmental computer system.
  • Arrive, select current accounts, and complete patients for the appropriate procedure, as directed in IDX-Rad and IDX-Mam.
Customer Service:
  • Provide timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive, friendly manner, including patients, physicians, and fellow employees.
  • Inform consumers and those accompanying them when delays exist and how they are being addressed.
  • Promote patient-focused care throughout daily activities.
  • Provide quality patient care, including preparation, description of exams, communication of pain expectations, scheduling, and teaching all types of patient procedures as needed.
  • Maintain strict patient and employee confidentiality, as appropriate.
  • Explain how patients should expect to receive exam results.
Patient and Employee Safety:
  • Maintain safe radiation levels at all times to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
  • No deviation from written procedures on radiation safety rules.
  • Perform all necessary equipment checks prior to use.
  • Ensure patient and regulatory standards are adhered to and suggest ways to improve patient outcomes when indicated.
  • Complete quality assurance, quality control, and radiation safety activities as appropriate.
  • Establish patients' identification.
  • Ensure no repeat studies due to failure to check armbands and/or properly identified patients.
  • Observe patients during procedures and report any unusual occurrences or changes in patients' conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Ascertain allergy status on patients.
  • Demonstrate educated and rapid response to contrast reactions as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Assist in performing first aid as necessary, including Code 199 procedures and locating equipment on crash carts.
General Behavior:
  • Observe patients during procedures and report any unusual occurrences or changes in patients' conditions.
  • Arrive at the start of the assigned shift ready to begin work; take lunch and break at appropriate times, and leave work at the end of the assigned shift.
  • Maintain neat, clean, and well-stocked radiology rooms.
  • Identify staff training issues and participate in Policy and Procedures development as appropriate.
  • Communicate concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management.
  • Work as an effective team member to efficiently perform radiological procedures.
  • Rotate shifts and assignments as required, including surgery and portables for Specialty and Hospital staff.
  • Take stand-by call as assigned.
Regulatory:
  • Adhere to MQSA and other regulations related to mammography.
  • Adhere to Cooperative-wide Personal Protection Equipment, Universal Precautions, Related Medical Waste (RMW), Infection Control, Safety, and other OSHA Policies and Procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience: N/A
  • Education: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Certified Radiologic Technologist (Washington) required at hire. Basic Life Support required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • Communication, problem-solving skills, and consistent excellent customer service.
  • State of Washington certification as Mammography Technologist and American Registry of Mammography Technologists (AART-M) registration by date of hire or will train radiology technician with two (2) years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of mammography experience.
