Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team at Duke University Hospital. As a Radiation Therapist, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring the safe and effective use of ionizing radiation in the treatment of cancer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer prescribed radiation therapy treatments to patients, ensuring accurate delivery and minimal supervision.
  • Verify patient prescriptions, diagnoses, and chart information to ensure accurate treatment.
  • Communicate treatment procedures and expectations to patients, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to prescription specifications, ensuring proper immobilization devices, field sizes, and lead protection.
  • Transfer patients safely to treatment couches, taking care to protect catheters, IV drips, and other medical devices.
  • Monitor patient reactions and report any unusual events or concerns to nursing staff and Radiation Oncologists.
  • Maintain radiation safety measures for patients and personnel, adhering to strict protocols and guidelines.
  • Perform simulations, assist with tumor localization procedures, and participate in dosimetry calculations.
  • Document daily treatment records and maintain accurate records for quality assurance and improvement activities.
Requirements
  • Satisfactory completion of a 24-month course in radiology technology and a 12-month course in radiation therapy technology, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Current licensure as required by state or national authority and/or certification or board eligibility in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiology Technology.
  • Maintain ARRT certification in radiation therapy with a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education.
