Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Safety Officer to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to make a significant impact on patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Job Summary:
As a Patient Safety Officer, you will be responsible for driving organizational change towards high reliability and zero harm. You will analyze patient safety events, communicate with hospital leadership, clinical teams, and Risk Management to develop and implement effective strategies for improving patient safety. Your expertise in quality improvement methodologies and patient safety principles will enable you to coordinate with leadership to direct the patient safety program and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze patient safety events and communicate findings to hospital leadership, clinical teams, and Risk Management.
- Develop and implement effective strategies for improving patient safety, including the creation of action plans and the facilitation of root cause analysis.
- Coordinate with leadership to direct the patient safety program and ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Review patient records and prepare patient safety event summaries and timelines for informed discussion and problem-solving.
- Prepare and manage reports to regulatory agencies, including the Joint Commission and Office of Healthcare Quality.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 3+ years of experience in patient safety in an acute care facility. Current licensure in Nursing in the State of Maryland is also required. A Master's degree in Nursing or a related field is preferred, as is experience working in an ICU/ED. The ideal candidate will have certification in In-Patient Safety (CPIP) within 18 months of hire.
Estimated Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
