GENERAL SUMMARY: The role involves executing custodial duties in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures. The individual will report to the manager of custodial services and collaborate with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students to ensure a clean and well-maintained environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conducts cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing floors, and carpet cleaning; dusts and sanitizes rooms, stairwells, and kitchens; vacuums areas; disposes of waste; and polishes fixtures and drinking fountains.
  2. Maintains cleanliness of porches and terraces.
  3. Sanitizes restrooms, public spaces, hallways, stairwells, and meeting rooms.
  4. Collaborates with team members to perform thorough cleaning of residence halls during semester breaks and administrative buildings during off periods.
  5. Manages inventory of cleaning supplies and maintains supply closets.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required; trade school education is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of one year of custodial experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of appropriate cleaning methods and materials for maintaining assigned buildings and areas.
  • Ability to read and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and in challenging conditions, including dusty and dirty environments, while adhering to established standards and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with peers and clients.
  • Capability to operate standard shift vehicles.
  • Possession or ability to obtain a valid state operator/driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated, including standard-shift trucks.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and be available for overtime as required by the institution's needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires intermittent sitting, standing, bending, crawling, walking, and lifting objects up to 30 pounds. The individual must be able to climb ladders and use tools and equipment that require manual dexterity. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to noise, chemicals, inclement weather, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts, necessitating the use of protective devices.
