The Dental Hygienist plays a vital part in our dental health team, working under the supervision of a dentist to provide clinical dental care and education. This role involves a range of responsibilities, governed by the state in which the hygienist is employed.
Key Responsibilities- Clean and polish patients' teeth, removing plaque deposits and stains.
- Apply medication to prevent tooth decay.
- Take and develop x-rays.
- Make model impressions of teeth for study or dental devices.
- Obtain medical and dental histories, recording information in the patient's dental record.
- Provide instruction on patient self-care, diet, and nutrition.
- Place sealants or cavity preventative agents, such as fluorides.
- Place temporary fillings and periodontal dressings.
- Smooth and polish silver amalgam restorations.
- Current Registered License for the state in which practicing.
- A minimum of one year experience as a Dental Hygienist (preferred).
- Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program (when applicable).
- Current CPR (if applicable).
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray (if applicable).
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training (as applicable to job site).
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to effectively elicit and provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including supervisors, coworkers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
