As a key member of our Design Engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and testing new and existing products, as well as assisting with the planning and direction of our design engineering efforts to meet our goals of Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery.
Key Responsibilities- Design or redesign component assemblies and parts of new and existing machines
- Service as Design Project Leader and Cross Functional Team Leader when assigned
- Provide status reports as needed
- Generate cost-effective designs
- Establish project time estimates
- Write project appropriations
- Write test plans
- Plan and supervise test of new and redesigned products
- Perform a full range of theoretical calculations and select the most appropriate materials
- Be aware of and keep up to date on applicable crane codes and standards (SAE, ISO, PCSA, etc.)
- Be aware of machine field service problems and take corrective action
- Direct and check the work of others on specific projects or sub-projects (drawings, calculations, bill of materials, etc.)
- Provide technical guidance to others inside and outside the department
- Ensure organization and maintenance of machine calculations
- Four (4) year college degree in an engineering discipline (preferably mechanical)
- Minimum of four (4) years of proven design experience in the crane industry or seven (7) years in the heavy equipment industry
- General knowledge of mechanical engineering practices and principles
- General knowledge of design drafting standards
- Experience with and knowledge of CAD software (both 2D and 3D), and engineering bill of material
- Knowledge of SAE Crane standards and ISO 9000 principles
- Working knowledge of manufacturing practices
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft products and MS project
- Proficient in the usage of industry standard 3D CAD systems (I-DEAS 2D and 3D)
- Attention to detail to check drawings, EO's, bill of materials, etc)
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to perform engineering calculations using mathematics, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and communicate effectively with relevant members of the departments of Link-Belt
