Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant - Phlebotomist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Laboratory Assistant - Phlebotomist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services, providing exceptional patient care, and contributing to the overall success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of laboratory functions, including specimen processing, blood collection, and data entry, in support of our hospital's mission of patient care.
  • Collect and process patient specimens, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in accordance with established laboratory policies.
  • Operate laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges and timers, consistent with standard operating procedures.
  • Restock supplies and maintain a clean and organized work area to assist co-workers in their duties.
  • Log and store specimens for laboratories not currently associated with the laboratory computer and specimens to be used at a later date.
  • Prepare and deliver specimens to laboratories, ensuring prompt and accurate results.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to collect blood and urine specimens from patients, regardless of diagnosis or age.
  • Examine and accept patient specimens for testing that are properly identified, collected, and labeled in accordance with established laboratory policies.
  • Utilize time, materials, and resources efficiently, prioritizing and arranging workloads to provide optimal patient care and efficiency.
  • Minimize waste of time, materials, and resources, and promptly collect and process patient specimens to reduce wastage and delays in result reporting.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Previous exposure or experience in a scientific and/or laboratory setting preferred.
