CHI St. Luke's Health - Patients Medical Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services to the community.

Our facility features 53 medical/surgical beds, eight ICU beds, and three endoscopy rooms, offering a variety of primary and specialized services including wound care, general surgery, gastroenterology, occupational health, heart and vascular care, women's services, diagnostic imaging, outpatient rehabilitation services, and sleep disorder treatments.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Delivery:


Accountable for delivering exceptional patient care through thorough assessments, formulating nursing diagnoses, establishing goals, planning and implementing interventions, and evaluating patient care outcomes.

As a staff nurse, you will also be responsible for participating in and maintaining quality, cost-effectiveness, and guest relations.

Deliver patient care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures and the standards of professional nursing practice as defined by the relevant regulatory bodies.


Assessment:
Conduct admission and ongoing assessments of patients' conditions. Provide nursing care to address patients' physical, psychological, and spiritual needs. Communicate significant changes in assessments to the physician.

Planning:

Develop, direct, evaluate, and document the care plan, including patient/family education and the transition of care plan to ensure a safe and appropriate discharge.

Collaborate with other clinical disciplines to meet specialized patient care and discharge needs. Create individualized care plans and daily goals tailored to each patient's needs.

Implementation:
Prepare patients physically, psychologically, and spiritually for treatments, surgeries, and diagnostic studies to alleviate anxiety. Monitor patients' conditions and report significant changes to the Charge Nurse/Team Leader or physician. Implement patient safety initiatives and protocols, including medication safety practices and physician orders.

Evaluation:
Reassess patients at appropriate intervals following interventions. Notify the physician as necessary to adjust interventions. Adapt nursing care to meet patients' evolving needs.

Communication:
Provide and receive reports using Bedside Shift Report, involving family participation. Ensure accurate and comprehensive reporting to maintain continuity of patient care.

Delegate tasks as needed to ensure continuity of care based on coworkers' experience, abilities, and patients' acuity.


Environment & Patient Safety:
Maintain a safe patient and work environment. Promptly dispose of used and soiled equipment and linens. Incorporate national and organizational goals to enhance quality, patient safety, and satisfaction. Report all safety concerns immediately.

Supplies Management:
Keep accurate documentation of charges and supplies utilized in patient care to support cost containment measures.

Time Management:
Adhere to clocking in and out policies to ensure timely completion of work. Obtain necessary approvals before working overtime.

Documentation:

Consistently document in patient and unit records according to established health system standards to meet legal and quality care requirements.


Licensure and Competency:
Maintain an active RN license to practice, including meeting multi-state licensure requirements. Take responsibility for meeting competency standards and assist in orienting new employees and floated staff as needed.

Professional Development:
Keep all professional licenses, certifications, and competencies current. Attend mandatory in-services, workshops, and unit meetings to stay informed on developments in the medical and nursing fields.

Patient Care:
Notify and escalate concerns regarding life-threatening changes to appropriate providers and document physician responses.

Effectively apply the nursing process within the framework of the organization's professional model of care, addressing the clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families.


Patient Experience:
Foster a caring and compassionate environment by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. Conduct hourly rounding and bedside shift reports, updating patient communication boards and providing service recovery as necessary.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Monitor patients' conditions and assess their needs
  • Collaborate with physicians and nurses to create individualized care plans
  • Administer medications and treatments as per physicians' orders
  • Cultivate a supportive and compassionate environment for patients and their families
Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing or Diploma
  • Bachelor's in Nursing Preferred
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
  • At least one (1) year of RN experience
  • Demonstrated competence in Registered Nurse I performance expectations or meets experience requirements upon hire
  • BLS certified with skills demonstration
Preferred experience in a medical-surgical hospital setting.
