Safety Supervisor Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Supervisor to join our team at Student Transportation of America. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all safety and training functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing guidance to training staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and Coordinate Safety Functions: Oversee classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and testing for original and renewing drivers, ensuring compliance with company, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct Annual Evaluations: Schedule and coordinate annual check-ride evaluations for all drivers, ensuring retraining is completed as needed.
  • Schedule and Supervise Safety In-Service Meetings: Coordinate Safety Committee meetings and ensure completion of all safety inspections in locations, including maintenance facilities, offices, and company vehicles.
  • Provide Guidance and Direction: Offer guidance and direction to training staff, ensuring all employees are properly trained and in compliance with company-specific requirements and safety-related regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain Safety-Related Policies and Procedures: Communicate and maintain safety-related policies and procedures, ensuring they are followed.
  • Document and Report Safety Incidents: Observe, evaluate, and document driving behaviors, safety spot checks, and review bus camera footage and GPS reports for safety violations.
  • Investigate Accidents and Injuries: Participate in the investigation of vehicle accidents and occupational injuries, making recommendations regarding cause, fault, and retraining.
  • Develop Safety Plans: Assist in establishing plans for safe loading, unloading, and parking at schools, as well as a Community Outreach safety program for Kindergarten and First Graders.
  • Provide Weekly Reports: Provide weekly safety and training reports to the Area Safety Manager.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in Safety in the transportation field, relevant experience in bus transportation.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with safety laws, regulations, and policies governing student transportation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization and prioritization abilities.
  • Team-player.
  • Strong leadership skills.
