Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients in a correctional setting, following medical orders from physicians and mid-level providers.
  • Participate in the screening, evaluation, assessment, and healthcare of inmates, whom may be seen in clinics, sick call, the infirmary, and confinement.
  • Administer medications and provide treatments following physician and mid-level orders.
  • Initiate appropriate actions in emergency situations.
  • Perform specific nursing tasks, such as intravenous insertion and care, venipuncture, and vital signs.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate's health record.
  • Maintain health services records logs and assist with data entry within the scope of nursing-related items.
  • Supervise and coordinate Licensed Practical Nurses and paraprofessional nursing staff with professional nursing functions to ensure an efficient working environment.
  • Coordinate with medical, dental, mental health, and ancillary personnel, as required, to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain accountability of all controlled substances and prescription medications according to federal and state laws and organizational regulations.
  • Participate in the monitoring, requisition, and documentation of the use of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Facilitate and participate in inmate educational health programs.
  • Participate in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency.
  • Participate in the training and orientation of new employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • State of Florida Registered Nurse License.
  • Valid State of Florida Registered Nurse License.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employment.
  • Current ACLS card or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • Correctional nursing experience.
  • Experience working in the Emergency Room and/or Intensive Care Unit.
