Job Title: Speech Language Pathology Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our team at the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. As a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing speech therapy services to students with speech and language disabilities.

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant will work under the supervision of a licensed or credentialed Speech Language Pathologist to provide speech therapy services to students. The successful candidate will have a strong background in speech and language pathology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide speech therapy services to students with speech and language disabilities, as prescribed by the Individual Educational Program (IEP).
  • Assist the Speech Language Pathologist in assessing students' communication skills and developing IEP goals and objectives.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities.
  • Adapt or modify instructional materials as determined by student needs.
  • Document student progress towards meeting IEP goals and objectives.
  • Provide assistance to educational staff through consultation, training, and direct individual and group activities.
  • Check and maintain augmentative communication devices and equipment.
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including keeping records, files, and reports related to assigned students.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or its recognized equivalent.
  • Certificate of Completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant's program from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association.
  • One year of experience working with individuals with speech and language disabilities in a structured environment.
  • Possession of valid registration as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant with the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board.
  • A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites.
Working Conditions:

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant will work in a classroom environment, with occasional travel to other school sites. The successful candidate must be able to sit, stand, walk, and perform other physical demands of the job.
