Backflow Compliance Technician

Purpose of Classification: $46,520 - $74,898
The primary objective of this role is to support the enforcement of DeKalb County's drinking water distribution framework while ensuring adherence to backflow prevention standards. This position is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to random drug testing in line with the County's Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Key Responsibilities:
The following tasks are typical for this position. The exclusion of specific duties does not eliminate them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
- Conducts field inspections of facilities to verify compliance with backflow requirements; performs testing on Watershed backflow systems; and generates reports detailing necessary devices, locations, and account information.
- Ensures that all backflow components are operational and properly maintained; verifies correct installation of required components; and repairs or replaces parts as needed to ensure the effective functioning of backflow devices.
- Participates in pre-construction meetings to address inquiries related to backflow matters; reviews construction plans in collaboration with contractors. Provides assistance to the Cross Connection Specialist as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED; four years of experience in water operations, water laboratory work, or water-related construction/maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; must obtain a Backflow Device Technician certification within one year of employment and maintain such certification throughout employment in this classification.
