Our Division of Acute Care Surgery team at Atrium Health-Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina invites Advanced Practice Providers to discover the exciting opportunities available.

The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, including thorough history and physical assessment, evaluation, and implementation of plans for patients with complex medical conditions. This role also involves managing ventilator settings, vasopressors, and solving complex clinical cases. Surgical procedures, such as Chest Tube, Central Line, Arterial Lines, Bronchoscopy, and assist with bedside Tracheostomy and Percutaneous Gastrostomy Tube placement, are also key responsibilities.

Our team is organized into the Sections of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute/Emergency General Surgery. With 17 surgeons and 15 APPs in the Division, we provide high-quality care for our patients. As an ACS-verified Level I trauma center, our hospital sees approximately 7000 Trauma Code activations annually, with around 4500 trauma admissions. Additionally, our Surgical Critical Care service line provides care for ~1500 patient consults per year across various specialties.

Position Requirements

  • Rotational shifts and assignments covering between the Surgical Critical Care and Trauma service lines.
  • Surgical Critical Care coverage: 24/7/365.
  • Trauma coverage: Monday - Sunday (0600 -1900). Trauma clinic coverage.
  • Every other Weekend, Holidays required.
  • Teaching opportunities with residents and/or APP Fellows.

Education and Certifications

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions.

  • Nurse Practitioner: Masters Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required, Masters Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
