Custodian - Substitute/On-call

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian - Substitute/On-call to join our team at Gateway Unified School District. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrels, and maintain a clean and organized storage area.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, locker rooms, and showers, ensuring a high level of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean chalkboards to maintain a clean and well-maintained appearance.
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparation for special events or meetings, ensuring a safe and accessible environment.
- Clean window coverings, such as drapes and blinds, and pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walk areas, and adjacent facilities.
- Perform emergency cleanup services resulting from breakage, vandalism, spilling, and illness, and assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.
- Assist in receiving and distributing supplies and equipment, and perform minor maintenance tasks to keep assigned areas safe and operational.
- Properly operate the heating/cooling system, and keep assigned rooms, buildings, or office space clean, safe, and orderly.
- Sweep, scrub, mop, clean, and wax floors, vacuum rugs and carpets, and clean and dust walls, lockers, furniture, and fixtures.
- Sweep walks and asphalt areas, and perform routine groundskeeping duties, including moving supplies, furniture, and equipment.
- Assist in restoration of buildings and grounds during school recess or vacation, and perform minor painting and other building maintenance duties.
- Report or correct dangerous or unsightly conditions on the premises, and perform other related duties as required.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, procedures, and techniques, as well as cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to perform moderately medium to heavy manual activities, and efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Understanding and ability to carry out oral and written directions, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of personalities.
- Ability to make minor building and equipment repairs, plan, organize, and carry out details of a work schedule efficiently, and maintain accurate inventory of supplies.
- Requisition materials as needed, and perform other related duties as required.
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
- Exert 50 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, and occasionally lift up to 90 lbs.
- Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and walk or stand for extended periods.
- Perceive the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information, manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle work with various materials and objects.
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills in qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:
- Experience in the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities, carpentry, groundskeeping, electrical, and plumbing, and the use of hazardous materials.
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
