Job Overview

This role is essential for supporting the Dockmaster in managing the marina's daily activities. Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Independently manage various marina operations under the Dockmaster's general guidance.
  2. Handle fee collection and allocate docking and anchoring spaces.
  3. Safely operate pump-out and tender services as necessary.
  4. Professionally assist with reservations and fee transactions.
  5. Support the Dockmaster in maintaining docks, facilities, and grounds while ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  6. Consistently uphold cleanliness standards across the marina, including public and boater restrooms.
  7. Regularly empty trash receptacles and remove litter from the premises.
  8. Demonstrate strong customer service and public relations skills.
  9. Assist with the docking and departure of vessels, ensuring compliance with procedures.
  10. Monitor marina activities and vessels for safety and security.
  11. Contribute to the upkeep and repair of floating docks and gangways.
  12. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Understanding of customer service principles.
  2. Familiarity with records management practices.
  3. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to the role.
  4. Basic knowledge of power tools.
  5. Ability to learn marina terminology and dock regulations.
  6. Basic skills in boat handling.

  8. Capability to foster cooperative relationships in a work environment.

SUPERVISION

The Dockmaster provides general instructions for work assignments, with oversight to ensure compliance and quality of results.

GUIDELINES

Work is governed by city and departmental policies, which may require interpretation in specific situations.

WORK COMPLEXITY

  • Responsibilities involve customer interaction and knowledge of nautical terms and vessel operations.
  • This position is vital for the effective operation and maintenance of marina facilities.

CONTACTS

  • Interactions typically occur with the public, colleagues, and other city staff.
  • Contacts are primarily for service provision, information exchange, or problem resolution.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Availability to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Work is predominantly outdoors in varying weather conditions, requiring prolonged standing and the ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Swimming capability is necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not include supervisory duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in marina or boating operations is preferred.
  • Any combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge is acceptable.
  • A valid state driver's license for the type of vehicle operated is required.
  • Experience in customer service is advantageous.
