About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled Railroad Switchman to join our team at Road & Rail Services. As a key member of our rail operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient switching of railcars, using locomotive power.
Key Responsibilities- Switching and Railcar Operations: Work with crews to perform the safe switching of railcars, using locomotive power, and ensure that all switching duties are performed efficiently and in accordance with company and customer safety rules.
- Compliance and Safety: Comply with all industry, customer, and company safety regulations and operating procedures, and ensure that all personnel under your supervision adhere to these guidelines.
- General Railroad Switching Duties: Perform general railroad switching duties, including coupling and uncoupling of cars, operating switches and derails, applying hand brakes, making minor repairs to railcars, and other related tasks.
- Speed and Distance Control: Judge and control the speed of cars, distance of tracks, and clearance points to safely move railcars and rolling stock.
- Communication and Teamwork: Receive and communicate instructions via hand signals, radio, speech, and written instructions, and work collaboratively with other team members to achieve common goals.
- Maintenance and Housekeeping: Perform general maintenance and housekeeping duties as required by management, including maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
