Role Overview

The HVAC Technician is tasked with the installation, repair, and upkeep of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within the facility. This position involves diagnosing system problems, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring the optimal functioning of all HVAC units. The technician collaborates closely with the facility maintenance team to maintain a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environment for all occupants. A solid understanding of HVAC systems, technical proficiency, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including air handlers, boilers, chillers, pumps, and control systems.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance to ensure systems operate efficiently and reliably.
  • Diagnose and resolve HVAC issues using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Monitor HVAC performance and recommend enhancements or upgrades to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance team members on broader facility operations and emergency repairs.
  • Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations in all work activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior facilities maintenance experience or relevant operational experience is preferred.
  • Support team objectives and assist colleagues.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and work conditions.
  • Familiarity with hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers).
  • Knowledge of power tools (drills, saws).
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and technologies.
  • Ability to work in various positions and environments (e.g., standing, kneeling, climbing ladders).
  • Capability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ensure all work meets quality and safety standards.
  • Identify minor issues before they escalate into major problems.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Schedule maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Knowledge of different types of building materials.
  • Understanding of building systems: HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical systems, plumbing, fire safety systems, and building automation systems.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED; HVAC certification or relevant trade school training.
  • Demonstrated experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems related to HVAC.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
