Job Overview:


Under both direct and indirect oversight, the Radiologic Imaging Specialist delivers comprehensive radiology and fluoroscopic imaging services across various departments including radiology, emergency care, surgical units, and bedside portable services.


Key Responsibilities:


Conducts radiologic examinations in accordance with departmental protocols within the diagnostic imaging department, as well as in operating rooms, emergency departments, and patient rooms throughout the facility. Positions patients effectively, utilizes immobilization devices as necessary, and selects technical parameters to achieve optimal imaging results tailored to each patient.

Reviews imaging requests, correlates patients' clinical histories with the examinations being conducted, and evaluates previous studies when follow-up or progressive imaging is indicated. Collaborates with attending Radiologists and Registered Nurses as required.
Adheres to all National Patient Safety Goals.

Ensures accurate patient identification through established criteria prior to performing the requested studies. Maintains the confidentiality and privacy of patient information while ensuring precise data entry. Captures necessary documentation within the Radiology Information System (RIS) and assists in screening patients for any contraindications.

Prepares sterile environments and contrast agents; organizes floor stock medications; guarantees the sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables designated for use in assigned areas. Maintains sufficient supplies throughout procedures.

Assists Radiologists during fluoroscopic procedures, demonstrating proficiency in operating and understanding the full capabilities of general radiology, fluoroscopy, and portable imaging systems. Post-processes and reviews images as necessary, preparing them for Radiologist interpretation and transmitting them to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.
Maintains a thorough understanding of all departmental equipment and devices, promptly reporting any malfunctions, accidents, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrative personnel.
Assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures, ensuring service-oriented communication by explaining procedures and addressing questions. Promotes a compassionate and individualized patient care environment at all times.

Facilitates patient transport post-procedure and provides necessary instructions on safety measures to patients, family members, and hospital staff. Ensures adherence to safety precautions.

Applies ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure for patients and self, documenting fluoroscopy time utilized during procedures.
Participates as a member of the resuscitation team during emergency situations.
Maintains all necessary materials and linen supplies daily, ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of the assigned workspace.
Shares on-call responsibilities for general radiology service areas.
Engages in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Attends departmental meetings and/or in-service training as required, reviewing minutes of meetings when unable to attend.



Qualifications:
Experience:
N/A

Education:
Associate's degree in radiologic technology from an accredited institution; or two (2) years of directly related experience.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:
Radiographer License (Hawaii) required upon hire.
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
Radiologic Technologist Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in trauma, fluoroscopy, and surgical settings.

Work Schedule:
Variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
