We have an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Biologist to join our team. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for leading biological surveys, monitoring, and providing guidance on small to large-scale projects.

Job Description

The Intermediate Biologist will be responsible for all phases of project work from approvals and pre-construction through to construction, operation, and abandonment. Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conducting, directing, and coordinating multi-disciplinary field surveys.
  • Serving as a technical lead to project teams.
  • Cultivating a work environment committed to the health, safety, and wellness of employees.
  • Establishing a highly efficient and positive culture where employees are empowered and accountable for areas of responsibility.
  • Leading various biological surveys (e.g., avian, wildlife, and vegetation surveys) using standard protocols to support environmental assessments and project compliance.
  • Collaborating with other members of the team and external partners and stakeholders to develop and implement conservation and management plans.
  • Providing specialized advice to project teams on considerations related to wildlife and vegetation.
  • Acting as a resource to construction personnel and explaining environmental regulations and how they are applied in the field.
  • Verifying that biologically sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work is done in the area and developing mitigation strategies where required.
  • Inspecting areas of concern as identified and making appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required.
  • Reviewing field reports for consistency and accuracy.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A post-secondary degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field of study.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience as a biologist or in a related role.
  • Experience conducting wildlife and vegetation surveys.
  • Experience leading fieldwork and coordinating with various field teams.
  • Professional experience working on projects regulated under NEPA or state-equivalent.

Estimated Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000 per annum
